Signs of Burnout : An Outside idea by Rebecca Cheetham
What do you understand by the term ‘burnout’?
Signs of Burnout. Most people think of burnout and they think ‘exhaustion’ but… burnout is so much more than
that… and the prevalence of burnout – on a global scale – is getting worse.
A survey launched by HBR in 2020 found that 85% of respondents felt their wellbeing levels
had declined and 89% felt their work life was getting worse. That’s an astronomically high
percentage.
It is understandable many of us are feeling a little battered and bruised around the edges;
we have all moved through an incredibly overwhelming 18 months – to say the least – and we
still have a long way to go before we can find a little more equilibrium.
For me, the increased focus on mental health has been an absolute gift from this pandemic.
We are all starting to understand that our mental health and wellbeing isn’t as infallible as we
once thought and, as a result, are realising that now, more than ever, we need to invest in
the management of our wellbeing if we’re going to be able to adapt to this ever-changing
world around us.
And… so that’s why I want us to start by focusing on spotting the signs of burnout.
We all spend so many hours at work each day – whether it’s working for someone else’s
company or working for our own – we spend hours and hours deep in the grind. And so, if we
want to improve our wellbeing and mental health, the first place we want to look at is how we
can improve our relationship with stress and reduce the prevalence and impact of burnout in
the workplace.
That’s what I am going to discuss with you on Wednesday 17th November at Networking in…– what burnout
truly is, how can we spot it and then what can we do to protect ourselves and those that we
love from its unwanted wrath.
There is soooo much we can do to support our mental health and wellbeing and it doesn’t
need to be hard. Come along and see how you can boost your wellbeing in a few simple
steps (your business will thank you for it!).
