Networking-in with Kelly Drewett

At Wednesday’s Networking-in, we were thrilled to welcome Kelly Drewett back as a speaker for the third time 🤩

She was speaking to us about ‘Search Engine Signposts: Why Metadata Matters for Your Website.’

Kelly broke down metadata with such simplicity and clarity that had everyone in the room glued to their screens! It was great!

To improve our website performance, we need to keep the bots happy. The bots like organised information such as signposts to guide them. Our work is to make pages clearer for both such engines and visitors to understand.

If you want to be found online easily, the two important things to work on are Title Tags and Meta Descriptions.

Kelly showed us where these two are seen online, and emphasised their importance when it comes to website performance.

She also highlighted that search engines might penalise poor metatags, which just goes to highlight the importance of paying attention to them.

She says that the shorter, the better. Title tags should be between 52-60 characters, and meta tags should be 160 characters.

It was an amazing session, sparking lively discussions, welcoming enthusiastic newcomers, and generating incredible energy throughout!

Check out our upcoming sessions here.
