I’m a sales director, sales mentor and trainer whose passion is helping business owners and directors feel more comfortable with sales.
The accidental salesman:
I never intended to build a career in sales. Like many, my first experience of sales people wasn’t that positive, ranging from poor customer service through to pushy sales tricks. That wasn’t for me.
Then my cushy “graduate trainee” position morphed into a proper job where I was supposed to deliver sales numbers and ensure we were paid on time.
Surprisingly, asking questions and understanding customers meant I was pretty effective at it.
Fast-forward 20 years and I found myself as sales director with a sizeable team, big budgets and yes, a faster company car.
It’s all about the customer:
Yet something in that job wasn’t doing it for me. The more senior the sales role, the more I was bound up in process and politics.
I realised my heart lay in finding solutions to customer problems; understanding their needs and then creating customer strategies that worked for us both.
Critical to this was a talented sales team and a company-wide customer focus. It had to be bigger than just making stuff and using the sales team to flog it.
That desire to help businesses build brilliant sales teams is what prompted Lynne and me to set up Sales: Untangled in 2019.
Sustainable selling:
Building customer-centred solutions fit for the future is central to how we work. Quick fixes that don’t last aren’t really our thing.
We’re a certified B Corp and run carbon net zero (28 years ahead of the government’s target 🤣), so we’re sustainable in a literal sense.
But sustainable selling is more than that. It’s:
