Have you seen Alice in Wonderland? At one point, Alice tells the queen, ‘There’s no use trying,’ she said. ‘One can’t believe impossible things.’
I daresay you haven’t had much practice,’ said the Queen. ‘When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes, I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast. There goes the shawl again!”
Can You Believe in Impossible Things?
I support the power of imagination and the beauty of having an abundance of ideas, but if you do imagine six impossible things before breakfast, you might want to jot them down on your Big Ideas Board.
Many entrepreneurs (me included) suffer from a disease of distraction called the shiny object syndrome – the moment they have a new idea, they revel in its brilliance and focus on it at the expense of other, more important things, trying to make it happen, sometimes abandoning ongoing projects entirely.
They end up chasing one project after another and never accomplish anything.
What is a Big Ideas Board?
I understand the importance of staying focused on what I need to achieve. To combat my shiny object syndrome, we have a Big Ideas Board.
When Sarah or I have a new idea or dream an impossibility, it goes on our big ideas board. Mastermind9 has been sitting on our Big Ideas Board for two years now.
Our Big Ideas Board serves two purposes:
- It prevents me from forgetting the idea.
- It allows me to bring myself back to the task at hand.
A Big Ideas Board can be a whiteboard, a chalkboard, a journal, or a notes app on your phone to record each idea as soon as it comes to you. Then, you’ll have all your ideas in one place, and you’ll be able to quickly identify those that align with your brand’s vision.
I love ideas, and I love talking about them. If you’d like to talk about some of your big (or small) ideas, book a call, I’d love to hear them.
Questions for You
My questions for you are:
- Do you have shiny object syndrome?
- Would a Big Ideas Board help you?
- Which would be the best way for you to store your ideas?
