An Outside idea: 6 degrees of separation.
The connection between you and your ideal client is just 6 people away.
In 2006, researchers at Microsoft studied records of 30 billion conversations among 180 million people and they discovered something incredible. Any one person is linked to another through roughly 6 people – 6 degrees of separation.
This means that the connection between you, The Dalai Lama, The Queen, or Boris, is just six people away.
It also means that you are already connected to a bunch of people who know someone that could benefit from your help.
A more fun example was the game created by The Hollywood actor Kevin Bacon who believes he can be linked to any other Hollywood actor within 6 steps
So how can you use Bacon’s law to grow your business?
1. Identify your top 10
Make a list of the 10 people in your network who you think might be able to help you or know someone who would benefit from your products or services.
2. Speak to them
Opportunity comes from putting yourself out there, and the quickest way to grow your business is to speak to people that already know you, like you and trust you.
3. Ask for introductions
Referred prospects close at a significantly higher rate. So if you’re eyeing a client that someone in your network knows, don’t hesitate to ask for an introduction.
